Our Mission

Lady A’s Blues and Blessings Foundation (LABB) is a newly formed, community-based organization built on more than 20 years of grassroots community work led by its founder, Lady A. Through music, mentorship, cultural preservation, and community connection, LABB uplifts and empowers people through the heritage and healing power of blues and soul music.

Rooted in Black and Indigenous traditions, LABB creates intergenerational programs, workshops, productions, and community events that heal, educate, inspire, and bring people together. The foundation grows from years of projects and community-centered work developed and led by Lady A through performances, teaching artistry, cultural programming, and partnerships throughout King County and beyond.

We center Black and Indigenous voices, female voices, youth, elders, musicians, and displaced communities, while remaining inclusive and welcoming to all.

Our Work Includes:

  • Mentoring and inspiring youth ages 8 and up, especially Black, Hispanic, rural, and displaced youth in communities impacted by gentrification.
  • Providing workshops and cultural programs that nurture creativity, storytelling, life skills, and cultural understanding through music.
  • Producing no-cost and low-cost community events that bring people together through music, storytelling, and shared cultural experiences.
  • Providing opportunities and stipends for local artists and teaching artists while encouraging intergenerational connection, participation, and communication across communities.
  • Engaging seniors and elder musicians, including those no longer able to perform publicly, through programs that keep them connected, valued, and heard.
  • Creating safe spaces where young people can explore identity, heritage, and self-expression through music, movement, storytelling, and service.
  • Supporting unhoused and underserved neighbors through music-centered outreach, wellness, and community care.

We believe music is more than entertainment—it is history, healing, education, and a way to pass down wisdom from one generation to the next. Through every song, story, and shared experience, we work to preserve cultural traditions, strengthen community, and remind people that giving back is just as important as the gifts we carry.
